FAQ

Straight answers about
how Printuple works

Plans, printers, selling, your data, and the things we do not do yet.

Plans and billing

What you pay, what you get, and what happens when you outgrow it.

Is there really a free plan?

Yes, and it is a plan rather than a trial that runs out. Starter costs nothing forever and needs no card: two production slots, three linked printers, one seat, and 5 GB of file storage, plus quoting, filament tracking, orders, and inventory. What it does not include is your own storefront, a custom domain, or channel connections. Those start on Studio.

What is a production slot?

It is how many prints can be running at the same time. Studio includes five slots and lets you link fifteen printers, so you can keep fifteen machines set up and have five of them printing at once. Start a sixth and it waits in the queue, then begins by itself the moment a slot frees up. Nothing is refused and nothing is lost.

Why are linked printers and production slots different numbers?

Most shops own more machines than they run flat out. Some are being loaded, some are cooling, some are set up for a job that runs next week. You pay for the printing you actually do, not for every machine sitting on the shelf.

Is yearly billing cheaper?

Yes. A year costs ten months on either paid plan, so two months are free. Monthly is the sensible choice while you are still deciding which plan fits.

Can I change plans later?

Any time, in either direction. If you are already on a paid plan, make the change from the billing portal and you are credited for the part of the period you have not used. Before dropping to a smaller plan, get under its limits first: nothing is deleted when you are over, but a full library refuses new uploads until you clear space. Billing is owner-only, so admins can run the shop without being able to change your plan or your card.

What happens if I go over a plan limit?

The meter on your billing page turns red and everything keeps working. Printuple warns instead of blocking, because refusing an order or a slice at a plan boundary costs you real money. File storage is the one exception: at the limit new uploads are refused until you clear space or upgrade, and every file you already have keeps working. Slice minutes and storefront orders reset at the start of each month. Printers, seats, and storage do not, because they count what exists rather than what happened.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

It stays. Your paid features run to the end of the period you have already paid for, then the workspace moves to Starter. Orders, products, customers, files, filament records, and print history are all still there, and they are all still there if you come back later. What changes is what you can do going forward, not what you have already done.

What is the Enterprise plan?

It is for operations that need their limits, branding, and support set on their own terms: custom slot and printer counts, white-label branding on the app and storefront, 24/7 support with a named contact, custom storage and slice allowances, onboarding and migration help, and a security review with custom agreements. It is quoted rather than self-serve, so email hello@printuple.com and we will scope it with you.

Printers and your network

Which machines work, and what has to run on your side for them to.

Which printers work with Printuple?

Bambu Lab printers on your local network: X1 and X1C, P1P and P1S, A1 and A1 mini, and H2D. They need LAN mode with developer mode turned on, and reasonably current firmware. There is also a simulated printer built into the Link app, so you can try the console out before your hardware arrives.

Do you support Klipper, Prusa, or OctoPrint?

Not yet, and there is no workaround that makes them work today. If that is your fleet, the honest answer is to wait rather than to sign up and hope.

Does a computer have to be running all the time?

Yes, on the same network as your printers, for as long as you want them online. One Link install handles your whole fleet, so you do not need a computer per printer, and a small always-on mini PC is the usual answer. It does not need to be fast. Sleep is the thing that catches people out: a laptop that suspends when you close the lid takes the whole fleet offline.

Do I have to open ports or forward anything on my router?

No. Link makes outbound HTTPS connections only. Nothing listens for incoming traffic, there is no port forwarding, and we hold no tunnel open into your shop. The only network requirement is between the Link computer and your printers, on your own network.

Do my printer access codes ever leave my network?

No. The access code is stored on the Link computer in a file only administrators can read, and it is never sent to us. We cannot retrieve it and neither can support. That is also why you type it into the desktop app rather than into the website.

Can I run Printuple on my own server?

No, it is a hosted service. The one piece that runs on your hardware is Link, and that split is deliberate: your printer credentials and the traffic to your machines stay on your network, and nothing in your shop has to be exposed to the internet for any of it to work.

Selling and payments

Where your orders come from, and whose money it is when one lands.

Which sales channels can I connect?

Etsy, Shopify, and TikTok Shop all connect today, alongside your own built-in storefront and orders you type in by hand. Everything lands in the same queue, with each channel's fees modeled into your true profit so you can see what you actually keep. Channel connections and the storefront start on Studio.

Who is the merchant of record on my storefront?

You are. Your storefront runs on your own Stripe account through Stripe Connect, so payments go directly to you and we never hold your funds. The other side of that is the obligations are yours too: consumer rights, refunds, tax, and record keeping.

Does Printuple take a cut of my sales?

No, and there is no per-order surcharge either. Charges are made directly on your connected Stripe account with the platform fee deliberately left unset, so the whole amount settles with you. The only fees on a sale are Stripe's own, at their published rates on your account. You pay us a subscription and nothing else.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes, on Studio and above. An apex domain needs an A record and a subdomain needs a CNAME, and Printuple shows you exactly which record to add. Your free Printuple address keeps working the whole time, so your shop is never down while DNS settles.

Can I take orders before Stripe approves me?

Yes. Order-only mode runs your storefront through normal checkout without charging cards, and you arrange payment yourself. Card payments switch on by themselves once Stripe approves your account, which usually takes anywhere from minutes to a couple of days. Some shops leave order-only on permanently for invoiced trade work.

What currency does the storefront charge in, and does it handle sales tax?

Checkout is in US dollars. Sales tax is a flat rate you set yourself with your own label rather than an automatic tax service, so the rate is yours to get right.

Your files and your data

What we hold, what it counts against, and how you get it back out.

How do I get my data out?

Three routes today. Orders export to CSV from the orders list, with order number, customer, channel, status, payment, total, tags, and date. Model files download individually from the library, exactly as you uploaded them. A full export of your workspace is a request to support, and we provide one before any deletion. Your catalog, your customers, your models, and your history are yours.

Is there an API?

Not a public one, and there are no user-manageable API keys or outbound webhooks. Every non-browser path uses machine identity we issue instead: the Link connector, the camera relay, and the slicing worker each have their own credentials. The orders CSV is the practical route out today.

Does slicing run on my computer?

No, it runs on our servers with OrcaSlicer, so you can close the tab and anyone on your team can slice without installing anything. It is metered as slice minutes: 120 a month on Starter, 1,500 on Studio, and unlimited on Farm. Slicing locally and uploading the finished 3MF uses none of them.

What counts toward file storage?

The model files in your library, so STL, 3MF, and STEP, plus the sliced files Printuple produces from them. There is no limit on how many files you keep. Files in the trash do not count, and the trash empties itself after 30 days. If you run out, delete what you no longer need or move up a plan.

Can I delete my account and my workspace?

There is no self-serve deletion, on purpose. Removing one person from a workspace is done by an owner or admin in the team settings. Deleting a whole workspace and everything in it is a request to support, and we offer you an export first. Erasing a business's entire production history should not be one misclick away.

Security and access

How your shop is kept separate, and who can see it.

How is my workspace kept separate from everyone else's?

Every table that holds workspace data carries a workspace id and has row-level security enforced by Postgres itself. The application connects as a database role that cannot bypass that security, and the workspace id is set inside each transaction, so a query that arrives without one returns nothing rather than everything. Tests that deliberately try to read across workspaces run on every change.

Do you have a SOC 2 report?

No, and we would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. What is actually in place: row-level security on every table of workspace data, enforced by a database role that cannot turn it off; per-workspace encryption for marketplace tokens, so one stolen row decrypts nothing; machine credentials hashed at rest with signed request bodies; host-locked session cookies; and cross-workspace tests that run before anything ships. For Enterprise we will work through your security review with you.

Can my team sign in with two-factor or a passkey?

Both. You can turn on authenticator-app codes, and you can register a passkey and sign in with your face, fingerprint, or device PIN instead of a password.

Can Printuple staff see my data?

Only to investigate a ticket, and never invisibly. A banner sits across the top of your console for the whole session, and the session expires by itself after an hour. We cannot see your printer access codes at all, and we never see card numbers, because payments run through your own Stripe account.

Support and your team

Who to ask, and how many of you there can be.

How do I get help?

Raise a ticket from inside the app and it lands with us directly, or email support@printuple.com and we will pick it up from there. For anything that is not a support question, hello@printuple.com reaches us. Studio includes email support and Farm gets priority.

How many people can use my workspace?

Seats come with the plan: one on Starter, three on Studio, and unlimited on Farm. You invite people by email, and roles decide what each of them can do. Billing is the one thing reserved for owners, so an admin can run the whole shop without being able to change your plan.
